A couple weeks ago my buddy Joe called me and invited me to the set of a commercial he was filming for HorrorFind Weekend 9.
How could I say no?
So on Saturday, I woke up at butt ass early 6:30 so I could be at Joe’s house by 8:30 (Joe lives an hour away, and my buddy Zig was meeting me at my house at 7:20).
Zig made it to my house on time. I made it to Joe’s seven minutes late. I heard about that all day.
The premise of the commercial (which should be ready to air by the end of this week) is short, but sweet: Zombies. George Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, etc.) is the guest of honor at this coming HorrorFind, so it’s only natural that flesheaters be the theme.
I asked Joe how many Zombies he expected. He said 10 confirmed, but he expected six. Over 20 showed up. Wowsa.
Filming lasted from 10:00 – 4:30. 45 minutes of film was shot. I took over 100 pictures. All for a 30 second commercial.
But, man, what a good time.
Now for the inevitable pics:
This is a picture of Joe. Joe is standing there so Mitch (the DP) can setup the shot. For some reason, I really like this pic. It could be the nonchalant way Joe is standing with an army of undead behind him.
This is a pic of some of the zombie ladies waiting for the call to start filming. They were (admittedly) drunk. And very funny.
I love these two pictures. The first is of four zombies being lined up for a shot Zig suggested. The second just happened. I was snapping pics and the girl just coming closer and closer. Came out much better than I ever could have hoped, even if I planned it. It’s pictures like these why I will take 100 snaps in an afternoon.
Hands down, my favorite picture of the day (for obvious reasons). Joe had come up with the idea to get a shot of him from the roof of the house we were filming at, and I begged him (and the zombies) for the same pic. As did Zig. Mitch was great enough to snap it.
As usual when hanging out with my friends, it was a great day. It makes me eager to get on the set of the upcoming Time Warp Films project, where I can take even more pictures.
I think I’m going to need a bigger memory card.
